　　雅思阅读猜题技巧一. 利用因果关系

　　因果关系也可以用于猜单词，大家要有意识地利用起来，尤其是在一些包含生词的因果关系句子中，我们可以利用“因”和“果”互相解释这一特点来进行生词的推断。我们来看下面这两个例题：

　　The Chinese built their pagodas in brick or stone， with inner staircases， and used them in later centuries mainly as  the pagoda reached Japan， however， its architecture was freely adapted to local conditions - they were built less high， typically five rather than nine storeys， made mainly of wood and the staircase was dispensed with because the Japanese pagoda did not have any practical use but became more of an art object.

　　雅思阅读猜题技巧二.根据定义猜测词义

　　如果生词是句子或段落所解释的定义，理解句子或段落本身就是推断词义。

　　例如： anthropology is the scientific study of man。

　　由定义可知，anthropology就是“研究人类的科学”。　　In slang the term ＂jam＂ constitutes a state of being in which a personfinds himself or herself in a difficult situation。

　　同样，从上下文的定义可知jam一词在俚语中的意思是“困境”。定义句的谓语动词多为：be， mean， deal with， beconsidered， to be， refer to， be called， be known as， define， represent， signify，constitute等。
